Practical product guide

Share a comparison with the right context and privacy checks.

Use a local export when you need a file, or an optional comparison link when recipients need to move between Before and After.

Quick answer

Pro Share Link uploads two images for the selected comparison frame and creates a link that expires after seven days. Anyone who gets the link can view those images. Inspect both originals in Compare before pressing Share Link.

Choose a local file or an interactive link

Local comparison

Open Compare, use Reveal Slider, Side by Side or available Differences, and export on your computer. These actions do not upload screenshot pixels.

Comparison Share Link

Pro can upload the Before and After images for the selected frame to create an interactive link. The link expires after seven days.

Edited screenshot

For a cropped or privacy-masked image, export from the screenshot editor and inspect that exact file before sharing it through your chosen channel.

Copying an image or downloading a file does not itself publish it. Pasting it into email, a chat service or another website sends the image to that destination under that service's rules.

Prepare two captures that can be compared

  1. Save the Before and After captures in the same Chrome profile, then open Compare from the editor or History. Compare requires Pro and at least two saved captures.
  2. Select the intended images from the Before and After menus.
  3. Read the compatibility notice. Match capture mode, viewport width and display scale. Selected-area captures also need matching geometry.
  4. Use the frame navigation on long captures to choose the part you actually want to send.

Differences needs a reliably aligned view of the same page. A compatible cross-page pair, such as staging and production at different URLs, can use Reveal Slider or Side by Side while pixel differences remain unavailable. A different layout width or device scale can create misleading changes.

Inspect both images before uploading

Check the images in Compare, not just the editor.

Compare uses saved capture images. Do not assume that a blur, crop or annotation added in the screenshot editor is present in the comparison. Inspect the entire Before frame and the entire After frame you are about to share.

  • Check names, email addresses, account information, private URLs and content visible behind overlays.
  • Move the reveal slider all the way across both images, or inspect Side by Side. Content hidden by the slider is still part of the shared Before or After image.
  • If either frame contains information you should not upload, do not use Share Link. Share a separately exported and checked image instead, or retake the source page with suitable non-sensitive data.
  • Check the comparison title too. Do not put confidential project or customer details in a share title.

Blur and pixelation are visual masking, not certified irreversible redaction. For a secret that must never be disclosed, keep it out of the screenshot or crop it out of the exact flattened file you intend to send. Original local captures and backups can still contain it.

Understand expiration and revocation

Comparison links expire after seven days. The link-ready dialog includes Revoke link to end access earlier and request removal of the uploaded images. Use that control while the dialog is available, and wait for its success message.

Expiration or revocation cannot recall a screenshot or file a recipient already saved. These links are access-by-link, not an invitation system with named-user permissions or a password. Do not treat an opaque URL as permission to share confidential material.

Local History and shared images are separate. Deleting a local screenshot is not the documented way to revoke its link. If you need help with a link you can no longer manage, contact support; avoid reposting the sensitive link in a public forum.

If sharing or comparison is unavailable

  • Compare is locked: confirm your Pro account and entitlement are active. Local processing does not remove the account requirement for Pro features.
  • No suitable pair: take two captures with matching mode, viewport and scale. Read the compatibility notice rather than forcing a misleading pixel comparison.
  • Differences is disabled: use Reveal Slider or Side by Side for compatible captures from different pages. For pixel differences, use aligned captures of the same page.
  • Upload did not finish: check connectivity and the on-screen error. Do not assume a working link exists until the ready dialog confirms it.
  • Link is unavailable: it may be expired, revoked or invalid. Ask the creator for a new link only if sharing that content is still appropriate.

See the privacy policy for what is transmitted and retained. Normal local capture, editing, comparison and export remain separate from this optional upload.

Questions about comparison sharing

Does opening Compare upload my screenshots?+

No. Opening Compare, moving the slider, viewing differences and exporting locally do not upload screenshot pixels. Pro account or entitlement checks may still use the service.

What exactly does Share Link upload?+

The Before and After images for the current comparison frame, encoded as two WebP images, plus the comparison title. It does not upload your entire local History or every frame of a long comparison.

Who can view a Capture comparison link?+

Anyone who obtains the link can view the shared frame while it is available. Recipients do not have to be named account members. Share it only with people who should see both images.

Will an editor blur automatically protect a comparison link?+

Do not assume it will. Compare uses saved capture images, so inspect both frames in Compare itself. If private information is visible, use a separately exported and verified edited image instead of Share Link.

How long does a comparison link last?+

Seven days. Revoke link in the link-ready dialog can end access sooner. Expiration and revocation do not remove copies that recipients have already saved.

Will the upload disclosure appear every time?+

Not necessarily. Capture can remember your accepted disclosure on the device. Treat each press of Share Link as an intentional upload of the currently selected Before and After frame.

Why can I compare two pages but not view pixel differences?+

Reveal Slider and Side by Side can work with compatible cross-page captures. Pixel Differences requires a reliably aligned view of the same page, including matching capture geometry and scale.
