Permissions
What Capture is allowed to do.
Capture uses activeTab-style page access when you start a capture rather than an all-sites host permission. The permission purposes below describe the capture, storage and account workflows. Check Chrome’s install prompt and extension details for the permissions of the version you install.
No all-sites accessOptional file accessLocal screenshots
| Permission | Required? | Why it is there |
|---|---|---|
| activeTab | Yes | Lets Capture read the tab you are capturing, only after you invoke the extension. It is not standing access to your browsing. |
| scripting | Yes | Runs the capture script in that tab so the page can be measured, scrolled and stitched. |
| clipboardWrite | Yes | Puts Copy Image on the clipboard. |
| storage | Yes | Saves settings and small account state in the extension. |
| unlimitedStorage | Yes | Keeps screenshot history from being evicted as ordinary browser cache. History itself is a Pro feature. |
| Host: api.capture.ratdeck.com | Yes | Account, subscription, device and download-quota calls. Screenshot pixels are not uploaded for normal capture, editing or export. |
| file:///* | Optional | Only if you turn on “Capture local file:// pages” in Settings. Website capture does not need it. |
| tabs | Optional | Declared as an optional permission and requested only when a feature needs it. Capture does not ask to read every website. |
Incognito is off until you allow Capture in Chrome’s extension settings. Screenshots, History and recordings made there stay in the Incognito session and are removed when it closes. Settings and sign-in are shared with the normal profile; files you deliberately export can remain on disk. The Chrome Web Store listing also names the publisher, RATdeck, as a trader, with support@ratdeck.com.
