Practical product guide
A practical guide to Capture History, local Library backups and finished exports, including what survives closing a tab or removing the extension.
On Free, copy or export before closing the editor. Pro History stays in the current Chrome profile and keeps 50 captures by default. An optional Library folder backs up new original images; it does not synchronize projects or save your final redacted export.

Free lets you work on the current capture. Copy or export the result before closing its editor; Free does not retain a browsable History.
Saved captures and projects stay in this Chrome profile. Pro keeps 50 screenshots by default, with a configurable retention count.
Downloaded exports and an optional Library backup are ordinary local files. They have a separate lifetime from extension storage.
A Pro account activates features on your permitted computers. It does not synchronize screenshot pixels or projects between computers. Signing in to another Chrome profile does not bring the first profile's local History with it.
The editor's main Download action produces optimized WebP. Choose PNG from its additional actions when you need a lossless image. A copied image alone is not a durable backup: save or paste it somewhere you intend to keep.
The History retention count is a working-history setting, not an archival guarantee. Saved projects have separate local handling. Free up space is a cleanup action; do not use it as a way to repair a missing screenshot. Export wanted images first.
The Library folder backs up new original captures and capture metadata. It is not a backup of the editor's finished annotations, blur or crop, and it is not a full project restore or cloud-sync service. An original can contain details you later hide in an export.
Keep the folder private. If you choose a folder synchronized by another app, that app may upload its files under its own settings. Capture's local-folder feature does not control that service.
Stop backup stops new automatic backups; it does not erase files already saved in the folder. Existing captures are not automatically backfilled just because you choose a folder now.
Under Preferred export folder in Storage & Exports, select Choose folder and grant write access. This is separate from the Library backup folder: exports are the files you deliberately save from a workflow.
Without a usable preferred folder, exports fall back to Chrome's normal download flow. Check Chrome Downloads if you cannot find a file. Choose Use Chrome Downloads to remove the preference. Capture has no direct Google Drive, Dropbox or other cloud-drive upload integration.
Reinstalling or signing in is not a cloud restore. Capture cannot recover pixels that existed only in local storage after that storage has been deleted. A Library backup may preserve the original image, but there is no documented automatic project-restore workflow.
No browsable History is included on Free. The current capture is removed after its editor closes, so copy or export your finished image first. A separately saved file remains where you saved it.
No. Fifty is the default. In Settings → Storage & Exports, Pro lets you choose a retention count from 1 to 500.
It backs up new original capture images and metadata. Do not treat those originals as sanitized exports or a complete editable-project backup. Export and inspect the finished image separately.
No. Account access and screenshot storage are separate. History and projects are local to the Chrome profile; signing in on another computer does not synchronize them.
Uninstalling or explicitly deleting extension data can remove locally stored screenshots and projects. Files you already exported or backed up to a local folder are separate. Save anything you need before uninstalling.
The setting applies to new original captures. Do not assume it has copied earlier History or projects; save wanted images separately and verify the files.
Incognito captures stay in their separate session and are removed when that session closes. If you deliberately export a file, that saved file can remain on your computer after the window closes. Settings and sign-in are shared with the normal profile.
