Charts & dashboards
Capture one chart plus its legend, or several adjacent dashboard widgets in a single custom rectangle.
SELECT AREA SCREENSHOT
Drag a rectangle over any visible part of a webpage and capture only that region. No full-page cleanup. No separate cropping app. Select the area, release, annotate and export.
A faster way to capture a custom region
Select Area is for moments when you need a custom portion of the webpage rather than the entire page or one DOM element.
Capture one chart plus its legend, or several adjacent dashboard widgets in a single custom rectangle.
Include a field, validation message and nearby context without capturing unrelated page content.
Grab the exact region where spacing, alignment, typography or responsive behavior needs review.
Capture only the screen area needed for a help article, SOP, guide or internal training document.
A smaller capture can reduce unnecessary exposure before you also blur, pixelate or crop sensitive details.
Select the relevant visual section, add a clear annotation and send feedback without distracting surrounding content.
How Select Area works
The selected capture mode is remembered, so if Select Area is how you work most often, you do not need to choose it every time.
Set Select Area as your current capture mode. Capture remembers it until you change modes.
Press and drag across the visible webpage to define the exact rectangular area you want.
Release the pointer. The selection overlay disappears and the captured image is cropped to the selected region.
Add arrows, text, shapes, callouts, blur or pixelate, then copy or export your finished screenshot.
Select Area vs Select Element
Select Area gives you a free-form rectangle. It is ideal when your target spans several page elements, includes whitespace, or does not match the webpage's DOM structure.
Select Element follows one webpage component such as a card, table, form or hero section. It is faster when the page already has the exact boundary you need.
Why not capture everything and crop later?
Capturing only the needed region produces a cleaner starting point, reduces unnecessary information in the screenshot and makes the result easier to paste into tickets, documents, messages and presentations.
You can still use Crop afterward when you want additional adjustment.
Private by design
Normal Select Area capture, annotation and local export are designed to happen on your computer. The screenshot image does not need to be uploaded to RATdeck simply to select, crop, mark up or export a region.
When a selected region still contains private information, Blur, Pixelate and Crop help you prepare it before sharing.
Selected area screenshot use cases
Selected-area capture is one of the fastest ways to create precise visual evidence without extra cleanup.
Capture the affected region with enough surrounding context to make the problem understandable.
Isolate the layout region where spacing, responsiveness or component alignment needs attention.
Grab a custom section of an implementation and annotate the exact visual changes required.
Capture the field, button, setting or error area a customer needs to understand.
Create focused screenshots for documentation without showing the entire application interface.
Capture a CTA, pricing section, form or content block for campaign and CRO feedback.
Capture part of a webpage in Chrome
If you are searching for how to take a screenshot of a selected area in Chrome, capture part of a webpage, take a partial webpage screenshot, or snip a custom region from a website, Capture provides a direct drag-and-release workflow.
Unlike a full-page screenshot, Select Area is limited to the custom visible region you draw. Unlike Select Element, it does not depend on HTML element boundaries. That makes it useful when your screenshot needs to include parts of multiple cards, a chart and legend together, a form plus its error message, or any other custom rectangle.
After capture, the built-in editor lets you add arrows, text, shapes, highlights, blur, pixelate, numbered callouts and crop adjustments before copying or exporting the result.
