Privacy
Privacy that matches the product architecture.
Capture is built around local screenshot processing. This policy explains what stays on your device and what account, billing and optional multi-user administration information may use backend services.
Privacy summary
Capture is designed so normal screenshot capture, stitching, annotation, crop, blur, pixelate, comparison, local projects and local exports can happen on your device. Those workflows do not require uploading the screenshot image to RATdeck just to process it.
Screenshot and webpage content
Capture processes screenshot pixels and annotation data inside the Chrome extension for normal capture/edit workflows. We do not need to receive your screenshot image to provide local capture, annotation, comparison, project storage or export.
Capture Pro includes an optional comparison-link feature. Screenshot content is transmitted only after you deliberately press Share Link. Only the currently selected before/after frame is uploaded to private storage; the opaque link expires automatically after seven days and its creator can revoke it sooner. Opening Compare, moving its reveal slider and exporting locally do not upload screenshot content. Any future optional cloud or AI feature will likewise disclose transmission before it occurs.
Screen recording
Screen recording is an opt-in Beta, off until enabled. Recordings stay on the device. The microphone is used only if you turn it on. No recording data is sent to our servers.
Account, device and admin data
When account or Pro features are enabled, backend services may process information needed to authenticate and provide the service, such as your email address, account identifier, subscription entitlement, device activation identifier, multi-user administration settings, roles, license assignments and related audit information.
Opening a Pro-only local feature may trigger an entitlement check or refresh. That request is for account, device and access metadata; the screenshot image, annotation canvas and local project content are not required for the entitlement check.
This information is separate from the screenshot image content used in normal local workflows.
Capture may process limited user-activity information needed to operate disclosed product features, including daily file-download quota counters and, only for accounts that participate in the referral rewards program, successful capture counts and active-day counts used to determine reward eligibility and prevent abuse. These count-only events do not include screenshot pixels, webpage content, page titles, URLs, capture modes, annotation data, or clipboard/export contents. Capture does not use them for advertising or general browsing surveillance.
If you deliberately submit feedback, Capture processes the feedback text and the account information needed to receive, review and respond to that submission. Feedback is optional and is not taken from screenshot content automatically.
Billing information
Payments are handled by the payment service used by RATdeck for Capture. RATdeck stores only the transaction, subscription and entitlement information needed to manage access and does not store raw card credentials. The payment provider’s terms and privacy practices also apply when you make a purchase.
Local browser storage
Settings, local projects, history, presentation preferences and related screenshot workflow information may be stored in Chrome local storage and IndexedDB-style browser storage. Stored source URLs exclude usernames, passwords, query strings and fragments to reduce the risk of retaining access tokens or other sensitive parameters. Removing the extension or clearing browser storage can remove local data.
Incognito works only if you allow Capture in that window. Screenshots, history and recordings made in an Incognito window stay there and are removed when the window closes. Settings and sign-in are shared with the normal profile, so signing out in Incognito signs out everywhere.
Retention and deletion
Local screenshot/project content remains under your browser profile unless you delete it or clear the extension/browser data. Optional comparison-link files are removed when the creator revokes the link or when an expired link is resolved; routine share creation also cleans expired files. After account deletion, Capture retains only a pseudonymized minimum billing/deletion archive for up to seven years for accounting, fraud prevention, legal obligations and dispute handling, then deletes it through a scheduled purge. Other account data is not kept under this seven-year rule. A documented legal hold may delay deletion only for affected records and only as long as required.
